Frequently asked questions

How do I separate first and last names in Excel?+

Excel's Text to Columns splits on every space, which breaks names like “Anna van der Berg”. Upload the file here and you get First, Middle/prefix and Last name columns in one go.

Does it handle Dutch and German prefixes?+

Yes. van, de, der, den, ter, von and similar prefixes go into the Middle/prefix column, so “Jan de Vries” becomes Jan · de · Vries.

What about “Last, First” format?+

Names with a comma are read as “Last name, First name”.

Is my original column changed?+

No. The original stays; three new columns are added next to it. Single-word names are flagged so you can check them.

Are my files uploaded?+

No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
